Guangdong and its technologies shine on national TV network
Being a sub-venue of CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala, Guangdong amazed people around the country with its drones, self-driving ships and vehicles on the world’s longest cross-sea bridge, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge. Check our report on this magnificent high-tech feast.
After the Spring Festival Gala, CCTV started airing a 50-minute ‘Guangdong show’ yesterday on February 18 to showcase the province’s culture and innovation ability from more dimensions.
The ‘Guangdong show’ was filmed at Zhuhai’s Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, and compared to the Spring Festival Gala, it was organized and directed by the local government and TV network.
The show presented the authentic Lingnan culture in the modern age through traditional Guangdong music, painting and opera while adding the elements of innovation and internationalization.

The ‘Guangdong show’ starts with a series of classic Cantonese songs for the Spring Festival to spark the joyful atmosphere of Chinese New Year.
A dance performance showcases the Tanka culture around the Zhuhai region. Calling themselves as “water-faring residents”, Tanka people have the tradition of holding their wedding on floating boats.
The show also present a history theme painting,“Xi Zhongxun in Nanliang”. When he was the Party Chief of Guangdong, Xi Zhongxun led the province in its implementation of reform and opening up policy and in the construction of special economic zones in the province. Guangdong’s innovation and development in the past decades could not be possible without him.

Singers from different regions of Guangdong sing a song in 21 dialects, showcasing the diverse culture in the province.
Famous singer Yan Weiwen sings an original song during the Guangdong show. The song tells an inspiring story about Comrade Xi Jinping, which happened 40 years ago when he was in Shanbei.
As 2018 is the year of dog, 120 dog-shaped robots present a performance during the show. These robots can dance, play the drum and the piano.

A rap performance is presented in various local dialects, such as Cantonese, Teochew dialect and Hakka dialect.
